What are we doing for Amateur Baseball?

Baseball Performance Lab is guiding the development of the next generation of metal bats. Working alongside the engineering team at Marucci Sports, BPL studies the variables that drive bat performance in the amateur game: center of mass, moment of inertia, and the acoustic profile of ball-on-barrel impact.

Never before has metal bat development been guided by this kind of data. We analyze not just how a bat performs mechanically, but how it sounds — because the acoustic signature of a well-struck ball is measurable science. Sound performance and sound preference are not always the same thing, and understanding that gap is part of building a better bat.

college

College programs represent the highest level of the amateur game, and the equipment needs of college hitters are substantively different from any other level. Players are maturing physically, swing mechanics are still developing, and equipment decisions carry weight.

Amatuer Baseball

BPL’s proprietary Balance Point Index (BPI) — originally developed for wood bats — is being extended to the metal bat category. BPI provides a standardized metric for how a bat swings, independent of length and listed weight. In an equipment category where marketing often outpaces science, BPI brings objectivity and a common language for bat performance.
